Technology Breakthrough: LED Smart Lights to Transmit Data
Posted in Eco-Friendly, Technology on 10 October 2008

Imagine finding a light bulb which is more efficient, less polluting and comes with a facility of data transmit. If you thought I am talking in my dream, you ought to read on and find out that Researchers at Boston University’s College of Engineering are working on something completely amazing. They are believed to be working on a Wi-Fi replacement technology which they call “Smart Lighting” that sends data not via the radio spectrum, but the visible light spectrum. The agenda is to replace the standard dumb light-bulbs by LED “smart lights,” which work at imperceptibly high rates as a way to transmit data in a network which would turn out to be helpful within an office. This means the moment you tap a light on, you can access data on any device with wireless capability anytime without the use of wires. Researchers believe initial speeds would hit between 1 and 10 megabits per second.
