DIY Willow Coffins

It was just a few days ago that I heard there was a church in certain part of this world to celebrate death and its carrier. So what is the philosophy behind this chilling ‘holy place’ which many believe is nothing but some kind of black magic? It is simple and it states that you need to celebrate death as you celebrate life since death is not detached from life itself and just another part of it. Without going too far in to the theosophical or philosophical aspects of it all, the logic sounds pretty sane indeed. Here though is the height of ‘eco consciousness’ with people taking a course in how to weave their own coffin!

Blades of Death: Wind Turbines Kill Bats Without Even Touching Them!

Wind Turbines

For centuries now Bats have been creatures that have been plagued by our ignorance and horrible myths that were created around them. The creatures have been often misunderstood and with little knowledge about their ways even till this day, we still have a lot to learn about these creatures of the dark. They were always considered as carriers of death and plague while they actually stop both of those catastrophes by weeding out insects and saving crops across the world. Now they are apparently falling prey to the wind turbines spread across not America and it is not even the razor sharp blades that are killing them!

Finding The Fish

Oceanic life

The fish are dying. It may be shocking but the truth is, 25% of the world’s known fish species, especially tuna and cod, are at the brink of extinction. The oceanic ecological balance has gone berserk and as a last minute preventive measure, governments have banned fishing in certain areas. Apparently, EU pays 61 million dollars to Greenland every year so that Germany can continue fishing in its waters. Incidentally, Germans like their fish frozen thereby giving fisherman a lot of time to fish and ruin the ecological system even in far off areas.

Goa Envisions a Green Ganesh Chaturthi this Year
Posted in Eco-Friendly, Environment, Pollution, government, water on 31 July 2008

Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival which many Indians look forward to as in today’s workaholic life, it sums up ten days of spirituality, fun, faith and socializing around. But what many people fail to admit (although, they know it very well) that the after festival picture is filthy with vast amounts of pollution on the beach and inside water where the Elephant God rests post Visarjan. Such people happily befool themselves giving excuses like, “God will take care of the fishes and the beaches.” But now, thanks to Goa government, this year at least in Goa the marine life will not have to ask God’s help for its survival for the much needed human awakening is already set into motion.

Medusae Hit Mediterranean Basin: Nature’s Warning Signal
Posted in Eco-Friendly, Gas, Global warming, Pollution on 19 June 2008

jellyfish

If you are a tourist planning to head for the Mediterranean basin for your summer vacations, you should better stay away from swimming on beaches. For the swelling number of jellyfish and their increasing number of attacks on humans has raised an alarm among environmentalists. Many species are believed to be eco-indicators, those that warn us humans about the side effects of our never-ending plundering. Certain insects, toads and jellyfishes are known to be excellent indicators. Scientists explain that such phenomenal growth in the number of these creatures and their swarming in the Mediterranean coastline every summer is a sure sign of nature out of sync.

According to Jacqueline Goy, of the Oceanographic Institute of Paris, “Jellyfish are an excellent bellwether for the environment,” and that “The more jellyfish, the stronger the signal that something has changed.” The scenario out there is somewhat like a science-fiction, where jellyfish sea monsters take revenge from humans. It is important to understand why this phenomenon is happening so often now a days? The rampant exploitation of oceanic resources by man is major concern regarding this.
