The expected look of a synthetic tree

The expected look of a synthetic tree

Scientists in the US may have found a quick solution to problems of an endangered environment with what they like to call a Synthetic Tree. From the looks of the scientific study involved, this tree will be able to help in soil remediation and heat transfer. Simulating the process of transpiration the tree bolsters the theory that transpiration in trees and plants is a physical process only. Yes, not looking one inch like a real tree, the synthetic tree would function like one. It will draw carbon dioxide out of the air, as plants do during photosynthesis, and retain the carbon which is one of the most damaging gases for the environment.
The expected results look promising. The tree can help in a passive heat transfer for cars and buildings. The scientists also expect it to build better soil remediation systems by pulling the contaminated fluid out of the soil without the use of more liquid. In the same way, the technology can also draw water out of dry soil without having to dig a well.
We have our fingers crossed.

Carbon Neutralized Eco-Friendly Wood Boilers
Posted in Energy, Fuel, Technology on 5 September 2008

Wood Boilers

If we go by natural facts then it’s absolutely accurate that we would on no account be competent to neutralize carbon effects of wood burning in our lives but we may possibly accept this and make the most of it in newly designed wood boilers. The concept revealed here articulates that these pioneering boilers breed out only that much of carbon dioxide by burning wood which a customary and natural decay process of woods in forests would do. Putting this in another way we can say that without augmenting in the already established environmental carbon intensity levels, this new range of wood boilers bequeath us with much healthier green boiling option.

Unlike the conventional fossil fuels employing boilers, these home energy wood boilers are fully automated and appealing as well. Within the power range of 12 KW to 62 KW, these eco friendly boilers are apposite to congregate our home’s each and every energy requisite in effect.

Grow Plants while You Push The Pedal: Eco-Bike Concept

Â
Cycling is good for our health and our planet’s too! The vehicle gives out zero emissions. We all know that but what we don’t know and might find it to be bizarre is the fact that someone’s creativity has resulted in an Eco-bike Concept that facilitates growing plants on your bike!! Yes, I too was intrigued and took time to absorb the fact. But Aji Kusuma’s latest bicycle design is creating ripples of excitement among the co-contestants who participated in the Design 21 (a social design network)’s competition.

Â
Modern designers like to take a tip or two from nature while working on their innovations. Kusuma believes the Eco-bike concept is a unique way of growing plants in a somewhat mobile fashion! The designer reasons out that one needs to plant more saplings today in order to protect our environment and since people don’t have ample time today on their hands to get involved in gardening so they might as well grow their plants on their bikes and contribute towards a green tomorrow.
Â
The Eco-bike concept has a ‘hexa’ shape that provides strength to the bicycle frame. It has flat retractable platform at a level just above the pedals where some green plants like moss can be grown. These small plants don’t hinder the cycling experience of biker and cleanse the atmosphere. The latter is done by absorbing the CO2 emitted by cars via emissions. Through photosynthesis these mosses consume CO2 emissions and provide fresh air (O2) to one and all! Well, the Eco-bike concept sure looks promising but it might need a few alterations to suite the tastes of eco-savvy people.

Green Software Edison-Saves Your PCs Energy, Reduces its Carbon Footprint!
Posted in Companies, Eco-Friendly, Efficiency, Go green, Technology on 7 August 2008

Â
In this IT age where PC’s and Laptops are ubiquitous, the carbon footprint/emissions from every singe PC in the world matters! An efficient power management strategy is required to avoid an energy crisis. The free software from Verdiem viz. Edison is one such green-product. Released on Wednesday, this eco-friendly software saves Your PC’s Energy at home/ office by monitoring energy consumption by the machine in an efficient manner. It allows a person to schedule his/her computer’s entering the low-power mode while working at office/ home.Â
Â
According to an estimate PC’s consume about ten percent of a home’s energy bill even in the screen saver mode! It emits CO2-the notorious GHG in amounts equal to a normal non-hybrid car! That means though you might be actively voicing your concern for environmental issues on various forums on the worldwide web; you are equally responsible for global warming thanks to your PC! Â

Â
But now, hopefully things will change as Edison has arrived. It lets the PC to enter a “suspend” state, which uses less energy. Users have the flexible option at hand to shut down the screen and hard drive before their PC enters the suspended state. Edison runs on Windows XP or Windows Vista and its license is meant for single person use. Its manufacturing company Verdiem estimates that the eco-friendly software saves upto 410 kilowatt hours of power per year. This corresponds to a saving of $36.50 in your electricity bill! The amount might look small to you as compared to the overall bill but in today’s time of skyrocketing inflation every single dollar counts! Similarly, every small step towards environmental friendliness helps in paving way for a greener and safer future.

A Green Proposition to Curtail Our Energy Usage
Posted in Eco-Friendly, Efficiency, Energy, Green on 29 July 2008

Besides the manifold benefits derived from trees a latest study gives you a fresh thought about one more plus of planting trees. This utterly novel idea would definitely provoke every single individual towards planting trees in the surrounds. The proposal affirms that by maintaining shadow on your air-conditioner during noon would raise its effectiveness up to a great extent. A dark tree of apt height and apposite variety positioned vigilantly with respect to the air conditioner outside compressor element would positively enhance its efficiency by 10%, which is supposed to be a grand saving. Native shrubs and small trees like nut trees and hazel bushes, easily found in every state would effortlessly serve our intention of planting gloom trees and constraints of food, shadow and may be slight carbon confiscation as well.

Hence keeping sunrays far-off from air conditioner comes out to be a cost-effective ecological illumination for augmenting power competence. This suggestion would certainly beatify folks who are keen on energy economy.
