The brand ‘Under the Canopy’ (UTC) has come up with a smart plan to make the environment issues an integral part of the political agenda in America. With just six weeks to the much awaited Election Day, it has come up with a cool t-shirt both for men and women that says ‘Vote Ecologically’.
Displaying the slogan in bold lettering, the chic shirts are made up of 100% cotton and will definitely make head turns. Possibly that is the reason why they have been launched at this time. These shirts are a reminder for every American to cast their vote with a conscience. It is a way to tell the politicians what you feel concerned about so that they discuss and come up with sound environmental ideas to improve the condition of Mother Nature.
Without expressing a bias towards Independent, Republican or Democrat candidates, UTC openly expresses its ‘green’ leanings. The women’s tee comes for $28 while men can get theirs at $ 34. Go ahead and get one for yourself, after all 2% of the earnings go to the Rainforest Foundation.

Americans have become quite upbeat about recycling what with the extra bucks coming into their wallets. Recycling facilities are doing great business as people keep pouring in with scraps of metal in the hope of making some extra money. David Trombley shared, “The recycle deal works great for my gas tank.” Incidentally, he made 133 dollars for turning in scraps left over from remodelling his basement bathroom.
There are two factors for this sudden rush. One, the skyrocketing metal prices caused by a demand in developing countries, such as China and India. Then again, the rising food and fuel costs are stretching paychecks to the limit, making people want to earn a li’l more. Another thing to note is that most of the scrap sellers are plumbers, electricians, construction workers. But then are also a whole number that is willing to scour garages and basements for junk and save cans.

When the whole of America was perturbed about the oil crisis, a tiny prairie town in Minnesota decided to do something about it. You can well imagine what the town must be like when the local radio carry news updates like the price of cattle and feed, but they were wise enough to embrace renewable energy long before gas prices reached 4 dollars a gallon.
A group of farmers in Trimont came together to build a massive wind energy farm. As a result of their vision, the town ended up with 67 giant turbines, each taller than the Statue of Liberty, that produce enough electricity to light up 29,000 homes. Not only this, the farmers and the local government are making around two million dollars thanks to the wind energy. Buzz is that this is only step one, as the number of the towers will soon be doubled.
Imagine what a little foresight can do. For starters, it can bring a solution to America’s energy problems.

The summers of New York City are becoming hot with the scorching art pieces displayed at The New Museum of Contemporary Arts. The latter these days, houses a provocative and environmentally charged exhibition-”After Nature” show (named so after W.G. Sebald’s visionary book with the same title).

This exhibition displays the thoughtful and creative work of twenty-six multigenerational artists, filmmakers, writers and outsiders. Many of these workers are showcasing their work for the first time in an American museum. The exhibits are lined-up on the museum’s three floors.

The paintings from these distinguished artists draw their inspiration from heterogeneous sources. They seem to unfold before or eyes like a brilliantly written taut novel and with force capture our attention for their ‘raw’ appeal.

The press release sums it up as “a story of abandonment, regression, and rapture”. The paintings being an “epic of humanity coming apart under the pressure of obscure forces and not-so-distant environmental disasters”.

This eco-feverish exhibition (organized by Massimiliano Gioni) is a must see for its communion of artists like Werner Herzog, Zoe Leonard, William Christenberry, Roberto Cuoghi, Erik van Lieshout, Diego Perrone, Thomas Schütte, Dana Schutz, Tino Sehgal, August Strindberg, Eugene Von Bruenchenhein, and Nathalie Djurberg to name a few.

Celebrate this 4 July with red, blue, white & green. In today’s age, celebrating your country’s and thus, your own freedom in an irresponsible manner is just not fair! We have already done a lot of merry-making at the expense of Mother Nature and now facing the consequences as well. While the buzz words these days are carbon footprint, green house gas emission and sustainability. Let’s see how we can decrease the first two and embrace the third entity this fourth-of-July.
Points to Remember:
· BBQ but in a green manner by using natural gas grills over charcoal grills.
· Say no to plastics (cups& plates). Use recyclable/reusable crockery (SEE below the list of some eco-friendly products that should be used).
· Go for organic food on your palette.
· Share resources, celebrate together with your locality.
· Resist the temptation of burning crackers at home; if must watch nearby town celebration where authorities use green crackers for firework displays.
