What kills roughly 2 million people but is not AIDS? Answer: indoor cooking related diseases. Shocked? This fact is found and recorded in a World Health Organization report. The problem aggravates in villages where modern gas burners are rarely available and the smoke chullas (stoves) are vicious enough to choke your lungs!
In an attempt to alleviate this situation, students from MIT have designed a clean solar cooker out of yak-wool canvas panels, for villagers of the Himalayan region. The panels are stretched over bamboo ribs and faced with reflective Mylar in a manner that in first look you might think it to be some sort of an umbrella!

But this unique light weight cooking device comes for only $17 and for an extra $26 one can attach a metal coil for heating one’s house. This solar cooker helps in cutting down carbon emission as opposed to the traditional yak dung or wood fuel the cooker uses solar power to make yummy food! Its design has won a prize and loads of public attention at the MIT IDEAS competition and in near future one may happen to find it in markets for sale. This means clean and green cooking at an affordable price and no more choking or coughing over horrible gas stoves!

Peugeot seed concept car is an upshot of a high school student Andrew Kim’s intellect. His wits and marvelous green concept car weighing against his age are beyond belief. If you desire to go on covertly, this inimitable car blueprint would magnetize you, as it has no windscreen and windows. Additionally, the Cameras and real-time visuals on the car precisely depict the path facilitating disruption free driving. Bent in a dreadfully sleek and aerodynamic trend this car eases haul. An electric engine would pedal the car trimming down the effluence and fumes intensity. Andrew Kim’s car crafted in awfully graceful and prominent manner seems to be a promising way out for environment perils.

You may find a hundred and one new lighting options, lamps and lampshades in markets today but I bet none would be as elegant, strikingly beautiful and innovative as this Penta pendant lamp. Designed by Luca Casarotto at Coscadesign studio Penta brings the best an Italian designer has to offer you! Its beauty lies in its unique design and its origin. It is designed to adapt light as per your requirements. An elegant chiaroscuro light texture can be obtained by keeping the lamp in a fully open configuration. The lamp comes laced with dynamic optic chiasm utilizing rotatory motion to deliver brilliant shades of light.

For modest settings and a simple evening dinner close it and Penta becomes a plain light source which can illuminate anything behind (tables, furniture pieces). The lamp comes with a number of joints and components which gives it a 3-D feel.

Now, comes the best part. This beauty originates from 100% recycled stuff (polyethylene flat components) and thus promises to be an A-grade eco-friendly product. Penta definitely is the thing to be placed inside your house!

Its holiday season and the internet, newspapers & magazines are rife with travel options and eco-tourism offers. For those who like to spend their money on quality deals like a concern for nature and like to opt for a LEED certified hotel, here’s another option-Blue (tourism) if you are bored with ‘green’ one!

Blue tourism is the latest offering to the environmentally concerned vacationers. This new concept in world travel is an initiative taken by Kerzner Marine Foundation. The latter is a private, non-profit foundation by Kerzner International that owns and operates the Atlantis on Paradise Island (Bahamas). The foundation is dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of endangered global marine ecosystems which have become the poor victims of over-exploitation by humans. It has started The Blue Project in the newest hotel there, The Reef and to ultra luxurious Cove Atlantis hotel (already a preferred choice among tourists).

The Blue project offers resort guests & visitors an opportunity to support the ocean and interact with marine life through a carefully crafted combination of ocean-based experiences that are also benefiting the marine conservation programs.

A portion of revenue collected from booking fees for the recreational programs and ocean tours and hotel stay per se is donated to the Blue Project. Both the project and the foundation lay stress on scientific research, education and community outreach to preserve the marine flora & fauna via eco-tourism.
The Reef spells innovation at many levels. It is the Atlantis resort’s 1st Condotel. The latter means that a guest can purchase an ultra-luxe suite (furnished and equipped by the hotel) for his/her use for any ninety days in a year and for the rest of the time, this condo remains in the hotel’s rental pool. The owner receives 50% of fee.

The condo suites are designed for an ultimate experience of luxury and relaxation. Every suite has a master bedroom, living spaces, gorgeous bathrooms, ocean view and Nassau harbor view and a personal kitchen all fully furnished! The Reef lacks a restaurant which explains the presence of your own kitchen in your suite. Besides, on rainy days one can explore a host of indoor facilities provided by the resort. These include a movie theatre, a pottery studio and an arcade.. At the Reef, kids can enjoy a 24-hour “Toy Room Service as well.

In case you like fishes and love to explore marine life there’s snorkeling to do at the 171 acres of beach area at The Atlantis. The latter also provides a stupendous view of aqua-life in its own aquarium which has more than 50,000 fish, a predator pool and a Dolphin Cay (Wow!).

One can participate in the Kerzner Marine Foundation’s efforts by visiting the fish hospital, fish nursery, special food-prep areas and state-of-the-art labs to monitor water quality. Bahamas is a heaven waiting for you and your family. For further details and more information on reservations, visit the Reef Atlantis but don’t be lazy for the resort runs choc-a-block with tourists across globe during the peak-season!

In London the new fashion of the night is go to disco knowing not weigh on the planet in terms of production and waste of energy. It ‘been opened in these days eco disco Bar Surya, near King’s Cross. The owner, manco to say, you call Dr. Earht (Mister Earth). Other names that the provocateurs of the DJ and night club managers!

Everything seems inspired the environment, starting from the name for Hindus Surya is the deity who represents the sun! Part of local energy comes from wind turbines and solar panels. The furniture is made of recycled materials or parts and even water is recycled water. The videos sent to TV broadcast from around the local transmit messages strictly eco-educational.

But there’s more. Much of the energy needed to establishment derives from the dance floor. Customers of disco dancing produce energy. Moving on track guests of operating crystals, pressed between them, generate power for the electric system and the air conditioning system. Even before his inauguration The Republic had anticipated the news explaining what’s behind this track!
