The idrogenodotto of Arezzo

It ‘was inaugurated on April 30 for the Hydrogen Project Arezzo, for the first time an urban environment will be served by an underground idrogenodotto from 80m3/ora that will provide hydrogen to produce energy and for industrial use to zero emissions.  Arezzo is characterized by the presence of an important gold industry, which extensively uses hydrogen for its production processes, such as welding and removal of oxides.

Three forms of production of hydrogen with reformer by methane gas, gasification of biomass and renewable (via electrolysis from wind, mini hydroelectric or photovoltaics).  The applications, beyond the use industrial, involving the use of fuel cells to generate electricity, cold and heat.  The laboratory demonstration HydroLAb, inaugurated in 2006, will serve to train personnel, maintenance of cells, in addition to a role as networking with stakeholders in the sector.

The project foresees the development of a proposal for a type of piping for hydrogen in urban areas with the quantification of cost to set up a network for distribution. From a practical point of view, the project will serve to assess the accuracy of meters for volumetric type, compared to those which measure the mass of gas.
