Biofuels away of women

The research “Equity and Gender Issues in Liquid Biofuels Production” presented by the FAO stresses that crops on a large scale for the production of bio-fuels such as liquid bioethanol and biodiesel, requiring intensive use of resources that small farmers, particularly women, traditionally have limited access. In short, the advance of biofuels would lead to collapse those micro-economies that are based on women working in the fields.

Indeed in poor countries are taken into consideration women to manage agricultural crops: for example, in Brazil 11% of the producers of bioethanol from sugar cane farmers are women, organized evil in small landowners possessions that because of the in cenovnim resources (fertilizers, herbicides, fertilizers, etc.) will no longer be able to manage their production costs.

The study expects that it will soon undertaken a strategy for development of biofuels is a sustainable level and thus cost, both environmental information and thus enabling the most disadvantaged populations often governed by an economy of the women not to succumb. The proposal is to integrate the cultivation of biofuels with local farming systems in order to protect traditional agricultural activities of small farmers, their skills and expertise - factors crucial to food security and the strengthening of rural communities in the long term .
