No Horsing Around Pink
The famous singer Pink has agreed to lend her color to the latest campaign by PETA. It involves the release of a billboard in Times Square highlighting the horrors of a horse-driven carriage. The New York City comptroller has been repeatedly reporting the ruthless treatment meted out to the equestrians. But the last report found that the city still had some carriage owners keeping their horses in substandard conditions. Soon after the report was made, a carriage horse met with an accident and died of fright by the sound of the street musician’s drums.
With this association, PETA is trying to create an understanding amongst tourists that riding in a horse-driven carriage is not as romantic as they sometimes like to believe. But the execution of the ad surely could have been better. Guess what does PETA’s website have Pink say? “Whenever I see a horse-driven carriage, I point and yell ‘animal cruelty’ to make the driver and the passengers as uncomfortable as possible.” See, I told you it was in poor taste. However, I still hope that the ad draws a huge response not for anyone but the poor animal’s sake.
